Biographie :
Allister Haddon Sparks est un écrivain, journaliste et commentateur politique sud-africain.
Il étati éditeur du "Rand Daily Mail" quand le scandale Muldergate éclata.
Il commença sa carrière de journaliste au "Queenstown Daily Representative" en 1951, puis travailla pour "the Bulawayo Chronicle" en Rhodesia et l'agence Reuters en Grande Bretagne.
Depuis 1967, il travaillait au "Rand Daily Mail" et quand les dirigeants décidèrent de viser le public blanc, il fut pousser à partir. Il devint correspondent pour de nombreux journaux comme "the Washington Post", "The Observer" (UK), et "NRC Handelsblad" aux Pays-Bas.
Il écrivit de nombreux livres critiques sur la sortie du régime d'apartheid: "The Mind of South Africa" (1991), "Tomorrow is Another Country" (1996), et "Beyond the Miracle: Inside the New South Africa" (University of Chicago Press 2006). Sparks also wrote the book First Drafts (2008), as well as an Tutu: The Authorised Portrait of Desmond Tutu, with a Foreword by His Holiness The Dalai Lama written with Tutu's daughter, and published in 2011 for Tutu's 80th birthday.
