Journalist, broadcaster and former diplomatic and foreign affairs editor for Sky News Tim Marshall gives a clear explanation of how geopolitics helps to shape world events and the decisions made by our leaders.
Marshall has spent 30 years reporting from 30 different countries and brings a lifetime of understanding of how geography constrains world leaders and impacts on world events. Marshall argues that geography is one of the most overlooked factors in history. The physical world and demographics always play a part in the choices made by world leaders. He points to the nation-building of history and present day conflicts in areas such as Ukraine, and highlights future areas of potential conflict such as Greenland and the Arctic.
Marshall has reported from wars in Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon and Israel, and has covered three US presidential elections. He has worked as a broadcaster for the BBC, LBC and Sky News. He is also author of a book on the Kosovo War, Shadowplay, and of “Dirty Northern B*st*rds!” and Other Tales from the Terraces: The Story of Britain’s Football Chants. He now edits an international affairs web magazine.
