I've been a fan of Appoline Romanens' work ever since I first discovered her on DeviantArt, nearly four years ago, and in that time her poetry has never failed to inspire and surprise me. Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to buy this book directly from her and I'm so glad that I did. Appoline's writing is passionate, raw and unrepentantly honest, evoking greats like Ginsberg and O'Hara, but distilled into a voice that is uniquely her own. Ex Imo Corde follows Appoline's journey poetically, chronologically and geographically with pieces written over the better part of a decade in China, the U.S. and, of course, her native France. It even includes her first poem, which she wrote at the age of nine. I have no doubt that Appoline's poetry will one day be as well-regarded as that of the greats who've influenced her and I very highly recommend this collection of her work.
