Many people have asked me how I go through the design process and what elements I use to create my fashions. This book, with its myriad of techniques and designs, presented the challenge - and the opportunity - to use so many of my favorites.
This book is for people who really love their Barbie dolls and really love to knit.
People really lover their Barbie dolls. Her tremendous appeal to children and adults alike has made her America's favorite doll over the past 45 years. As a knitter, I was always fascinated with edgings and borders and the beautiful enhancement that they give to every knitted piece.
Afghans: I love them! I love designing them; I love knitting them; I love giving them as gifts; I love having them around the house. They are perhaps the most enduring of all knitted pieces. They are warm, comforting, colorful, beautiful, and have myriad of uses. They can become heirlooms. They embody love!
Be warned - knitting for Barbie can be addictive ! If you find yourself with an abundance of lovely little hand-knit clothes, you may want to donate them to hospitals or church bazaars, give them as gifts, hang them on your Christmas tree, away from lights or open flames, or frame them as works of art.
The signature scarves featured in this book use all kinds of materials, techniques and styles. I was fortunate enough to have one of my scarves appear on the cover of the 25th anniversary issue of Vogue Knitting magazine, and have included the instructions for the scarf in this book.
In 1959, my parents bought me the original Barbie Doll, and it was such a happy day in my life !
