Barbara Deimling

Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi - so ran the official name of the painter whom we know as Sandro Boticelli. His Christian name, Alessandro, had become shortened in the course of time to Sandro, while "Boticelli" - Little Barrel - was the nickname of his clearly well-upholstered eldest brother, Giovanni. The name became so well-established that it was ultimately conferred upon every member of the family.
