What is it that gives the Irish house such a distinctive character? After all, in theory these buildings should look no different from those found on the neighboring island of Britain and yet the Irish house is quite different in appearance and spirit. Why should this be so? Why should the houses of Ireland appear quite unlike those found on the other side of a short stretch of water?
