Biographie :
David Bakan était un psychologue américain.
Professeur d'université depuis 1961, il a enseigné à l'université de Chicago, à Harvard, York University à Toronto, Canada. Il a écrit sur de nombreux sujets, la psychanalyse, la religion, la philosophie, la méthodologie de recherche, aussi bien que sur les abus sur les enfants.
Il est l'auteur de Sigmund Freud and the Jewish Mystical Tradition (1958), Duality of Human Existence: An Essay on Psychology and Religion (1966), On Method: Toward a Reconstruction of Psychological Investigation (1967); Disease, Pain, and Sacrifice: Toward a Psychology of Suffering (1968); Slaughter of the Innocents: A Study of the Battered Child Phenomenon (1971); And They Took Themselves Wives: The Emergence of Patriarchy in Western Civilization (1979); and Maimonides on Prophecy (1991).
Professeur émérite à York University's Department of Psychology, il a pris sa retraite en 1991.
