Il a été co-éditeur, avec Alexander Cockburn, de la lettre d'information politique "CounterPunch" et fut éditeur du mensuel "In These Times".
Il a écrit pour "The Washington Post", "San Francisco Examiner", "The Nation" et "The Progressive".
En 1998, il publia son premier livre, avec Cockburn, "Whiteout: the CIA, Drugs and the Press".
