Since 1953, Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority, has recognized as “Righteous Among the Nations” nearly 25,000 men and women who rescued Jews during the Shoah. By design, this honor has been bestowed only upon individuals who are not Jewish.
Throughout Nazi Europe, Jews also risked their lives to save others. Yet, Jewish rescuers have gone largely unnoticed, their names unrecorded and their stories untold.
