Robert Field has written six books on geometric patterns which are used by many people as a source of creative design in subjects as diverse as embroidery, patio paving, knitwear and quilt making.
He also published and illustrated an anthology of poems about mice.

Man's inventiveness is a constant source of wonder and interest.
Everywhere there was a wealth of pattern and inventiveness to marvel at. The sense of wonder increased still further when, on starting to draw the patterns for myself, I discovered the simplicity of the grids from which they were developed. It is hoped that this book, with its combination of drawings and photographs, will stimulate a thorough investigation and interest in the wonderful geometrical patterns and buildings of Islam.
This book aims to direct the eyes to the wealth of geometrical patterns which can be found in ecclesiastical buildings of all kinds. Looking for them considerably adds to the enjoyment of a visit and one can wonder at the imagination and inventiveness with which they are used.
