Naia se pencha, déblaya la boue et aperçut bientôt, noyé dans la pierre sombre, un scintillement violet. Dégageant toute la zone, elle découvrit une veine de Crystal qui courait le long de la roche. Elle ne faisait que la largeur d'un fil, mais Naia plissa instinctivement les yeux comme si son corps savait que la lumière qu'elle dégageait pouvait l'aveugler.

Behind, on the saddled backs of the phegnese, were what looked to be crowned heads protruding from an extravagant mound of lush brocades, velvets, furs and feathers. They were beaked, with bald heads and narrow-set otherworldly eyes: the Skesis Lords, Two of Twice-Nine, holders of the castle and protectors of the Crystal.

Towering on the other side of the bridge, magnificent black against the backdrop of the eletric storm, was the spire-capped Castle of the Crystal.

A chaque bruissement, son cœur bondissait dans sa poitrine et elle s'attendait à voir surgir un autre monstre rugissant... Mais rien de tel n'arriva. Hormis les volants, les grimpants, les rampants et les nageants habituels, Neech et elle étaient seuls...

Des treillis de bois et des cordages de marche reliaient des bâtiments, taillés dans les coins et recoins des troncs immenses, à d'autres bâtisses arrimées à d'épais balanciers. Tout un monde suspendu au dessus du marais...
