Ce que j'ai surtout aimé dans ce livre, c'est le contexte et les sujets.
On est immergé dans une communauté indienne où le carcan des traditions reste très présent, ce qui donne un récit archaïque et misogyne. C'est grinçant mais ça fait sens et les deux personnages principaux reflètent une nouvelle génération qui aspire à plus de liberté dans leur choix de vie tout en respectant leur valeurs culturelles.
La romance est slowburn et smut free, patiné de thématiques fortes.

I’m not going to lie and say I know everything about her, but I do know if you’re nice to her, she will be a good friend to you. If you’re a jerk or start judging her, she’ll probably put you in your place. Liya is opinionated and strong and doesn’t take crap from anyone. Maybe the problem here is you and not her. All that judgmental, sexist shaming you’re doing isn’t reflective of her but defining you. […] If you’re going to label her a bad person, do it on your own experiences with her, not what anyone else says.
Approach and embrace the bitterness. Look it in the eye and give it all you have, your tears, your fears, your anger. Then release it like a breath you’ve held for too long.
