Canterville Ghost : The graphic Novel

Do you like the stories that make you shiver? If yes, this novel is for you !

This adaptation is a Graphic novel of the Carteville ghost ( the author is Oscar Wilde) drawing by

Steve Bryant with 123 pages.

The American Otis family move into in the English stately home of Canterville Chase despite

warnings from Lord Canterville. A few questions remain :

Why is such a grand house for sale in the first place ?

What can possibly be wrong with it ?

Why doesn't Lord Canterville want to live there himself ?

There can only be one explanation : the house is haunted by Sir Simon de Canterville. He has been

reaming the halls and corridors for 300 years , even since he murdered his wife there ; but now this

new family has arrived to pester him !Now, what happens when they have to face the fact that Sir

Simon de Canterville is in the home ?

It is a classic story in a modern adaptation with colorful pictures : a graphic novel . A graphic

novel is a comic strip serious and ambitious, intended for a grown-up readership.

The coloring of this novel was created by Jason Millet.

The images are really coming to life, with an impression of three dimensions on the two

dimensional plane .

In my opinion, this story is interesting because it makes me shudder . The presence of the ghost is

disturbing yet funny, because he has very strange reactions for a ghost . I regret that he does not

have more dialogue there . This charming story is full of humour and wit, dealing with a culture

clash between “Modern America” and “traditional Britain” in the late 1800s.

If you are a hardcore fantasy fan, or someone who just wants an interesting read, this graphic
novel . I give it 6 out of 8 because I think it could have more rhythm there.

I recommend the book to fans of mysterious, fantastic story and especially to the people who like

laughing.

The book is the comic adaptation of Oscar Wilde's classic
It tells the story of an American family living in an English haunted house.
The ghost, Sir Simon de Canterville lived alone for 300 years after he murdered his wife.
He scared many people by himself making them leave the manor and take his role as a job where he has to perform.
Indeed, the family faces the ghost fast but doesn't get frightened.
So, Sir Simon has to improve himself.
The Otis family makes fun of him and never takes the ghost seriously. The twins' sons often trick him. All the traps they make lead Sir Simon to despair.
The daughter, Virginia, meets the ghost and starts talking about his ex-wife. Virginia learns that he has been condemned to starve to death and find peace.
She decides to help the ghost to find somewhere to relax. We understand that the prophecy told by the ghost just became true and that Sir Simon is free of dying.
Along the book, the ghost is seen as an appealing character whose personality becomes more understandable when he reveals his threats to Virginia. The funny part of the text makes the reading less serious and more diversified.
The story, even if it was changed for this graphic-novel edition and enriched by the drawings, stays an authentic gothic tale and offers an enjoyable spin.

The story takes place in England in the home of Canterville Chase. The main characters are Sir Simon, Mr. Otis and Virginia. Sir Simon is a ghost and he haunts this house since he has killed Eleanor. Mr Otis is an american minister and he went in this house with his family. I think it is a good story but the introduction is too long.

Hugo.

I liked the book The Canterville Ghost. It is a great book with good drawings. I found the vocabulary easy, and accessible to everyone, except for a few words, but you can still understand the story. I had not read the original novel before, even if it was written by a famous writer named Oscar Wilde. Nevertheless I had heard about the title. However, I got a problem with the end of the book, because I found it weird. Let me explain what I mean. The ghost is supposed to be dead, as it is a ghost, but at one point, it goes somewhere with Virginia Otis. Then she comes back without him. And she says that the ghost is now dead. I did not understand this part, because a ghost is supposed to be already dead.

You don't like horror stories ? Don't worry : it will not make you frightened!

The Canterville Ghost, a gothic novel written by the famous Oscar Wilde, narrates the story of an American family who wanted to live in a large mansion lost in England. Even if this impressive house is haunted, this book will sometimes make you laugh and we can be attracted by the ghost! The story of the Canterville Ghost will grip you from the beginning to the end thanks to its reading facility.

Nevertheless, I found this story too short : the ending is very frustrating!

I recommend this comic especially for younger readers who speak English fluently or for every people who want to discover the Oscar Wilde' s work or for people who don't speak English very well.

According to me, the Canterville Ghost deserves a four out of five.

Enjoy your book!
