Maxine Hong Kingston est une écrivaine américaine d’ascendance chinoise.
En 1976, Kingston publie son premier livre,La femme guerrière : Mémoires d'une jeune fille parmi les fantômes . Il combine mythe , histoire familiale, contes folkloriques et souvenirs de l'expérience de grandir au sein de deux cultures en conflit . Le livre a été un succès critique immédiat, remportant le National Book Critics 'Circle Award de 1976 pour la non-fiction.
Elle obtient le National Book Award en 2008 pour l’ensemble de son œuvre.
