Nouvelles britanniques classiques : Edition bilingue français-anglais

Lu dans un cadre scolaire.

J'ai lu uniquement la première nouvelle, "The Signalman" ; ce sera donc une critique portée sur cette nouvelle uniquement.
Alors, pour l'histoire : je n'ai vraiment rien à dire. L'idée est bonne mais c'est très spécial. Déjà, on ne connaît absolument rien sur les personnages (même pas les noms, l'âge, leur passé, RIEN), ce à quoi je ne suis pas habituée. Ensuite, il m'a fallu regarder des résumés sur Internet, avoir des avis externes et relire plusieurs fois pour tout comprendre.
Le style est sûrement dépassé et mon anglais en a souffert... La traduction française est vraiment laide (seul mot correct me venant à l'esprit !) : la mise en forme est très mal faite (oubli de ponctuation, ou au contraire trop de ponctuation...), changement de signification, traduction alambiquée et pas fluide. Ce qui dénature complètement l'ouvrage d'origine. de plus, la police d'écriture est très bof, pas agréable à lire. Mais ça, faute à l'éditeur...

Donc au final, un livre que j'aurais sûrement mieux apprécié si les conditions avaient été meilleures pour le lire.

Etant donné que ce livre est bilingue, je trouve ça normal de faire la traduction de ma critique en anglais. Comme pour honorer le livre...


Read for school.

I only read the first short story, "The Signalman"; thus it will be a review dealing with this one novella.
For the story in itself: I don't have anything to say. The idea is good but it's very special. First of all, we know absolutely nothing about the main characters (not even their names, their age, their past, NOTHING), what I'm not used to. Moreover, I had to look at some summaries on Internet, have external opinions and read again several times so as to understand everything.
The style is probably outmoded et my English suffered from it... The French traduction is very ugly (the only word that came into my brain!) : the shaping is bad (forgetting punctuation, or quite the opposite too much punctuation...), change of meaning, overcomplicated and not fluent traduction. What completely denatures the original work. Moreover, the font is quite bad, not pleasant to read. But we only can accuse the publishor...

So finally, a book that I would have probably prefered if the conditions had been better to read it.
