Décidément les dark romances ne sont pas faites pour moi. Viol, amour tordu, etc. Ce roman est certes bien écrit et original mais la violence m'a profondément gênée. Les ingrédients sont présents, esclavage, trafic d'êtres humaines, viols, violence, parents indignes. Une vraie encyclopédie contient ce que l'homme détient de pire en lui et décrit un amour difficile à comprendre d'une victime, la protagoniste, pour son bourreau qui souffre de troubles psychiatriques : trouble dissociatif de la personnalité. Bref le livre est trop volumineux pour faire abstraction de cette violence malaisante.

“I’m so sorry.” My face pulled back, turning from him and creating a distance that he allowed.
« You should have controlled him.”

He looked sorry. . . but words were just words. Actions always spoke louder. “Stop saying that!” I was loud, erupting in anger. “You’re twisted. Your whole family is twisted.”
He held me for a moment, and I allowed only that.
“I’m so sorry.” My face pulled back, turning from him and creating a distance that he allowed.

He looked sorry. . . but words were just words. Actions always spoke louder. “Stop saying that!” I was loud, erupting in anger. “You’re twisted. Your whole family is twisted.”
I enjoyed living in the lie that she meant absolutely fuck all to me, but the truth was, she was everything that made my miserable face smile, even if it was only while I made her heart, eyes, and soul weep.
I was owned… by the man who could rival the devil.
