Batman : Année Un

Au début, j'ai eu un peu de mal avec le style de dessin. C'est très particulier, mais, finalement, c'est aussi ce qui fait la force de ce comic book. D'ailleurs, j'ai bien aimé le clin d'oeil au Nighthawks d'Edward Hopper. Quant à l'histoire, elle m'a vraiment plu, à ceci près que ça me perturbe toujours quand Barbara est la femme de Gordon et non sa fille (que voulez-vous, j'ai commencé avec The Killing Joke). Et j'ai été très, très frustré que l'histoire s'arrête alors qu'on entendait tout juste parler du Joker (mon éternel préféré), mais j'ai beaucoup apprécié ma lecture.

Batman: Year One is an American comic book story published by DC Comics. I'm going to give you a very short summary because I think the majority of you already know Batman's story. The books tells the first year of the of the exercise of Batman's work. This is not Genesis although there is some flashback on the creation of Batman (the discovery of his extraordinary abilities) that allows to understand his actions and the missions he undertakes on this first year. The story takes place in the fictional city of Gotham city inspired by American cities. Batman's goal is to restore and fight crime in his city, just like the police who are substituted for his actions, although he is more efficient thanks to his super powers. The story is particularly prevalent in the city's hottest district where there are prostitutes, drugs and alcohol. The people as well as the police (who would have any interest in rallying to Batman) have a hard time trimming against the outlaws, moreover Batman scared them and the population because they had no idea if he's good or bad and they think that he is a criminal more. But their goal turns out to be the same, living in peace in Gotham city.
I particularly enjoyed this comic book because I love the world of superheroes created by Marvel and DC Comics since my childhood. I decided to take this book for the project because it was the first volume and I was going to understand the story more easily. And also, I appreciate comics when I read in a foreign language because the images allows me to have a support other than the text to follow the unfolding of the story. Here, the drawings are simple clean, in relief and alive because each tone of color is in connection with the action and the characters (their character for example). The dialogues in the bubbles are therefore rather short but there are still indications (in yellow) other than dialogues. I do appreciate that the final scene of a chapter are only a drawing without text, in my opinion it's a good way to sum up and close a chapter. Overall, I understood everything: the vocabulary is accessible and the story is rather simple, so I will recommend this book to any type of reader. I think it can be a good idea to start reading in a foreign language to start reading a comic to prepare for reading a novel and for me this comic is a very good start. The story is really captivating the characters are interesting because of their duplicity, their characters and at some point the misunderstanding of their real face. What makes the story even richer is that it's interested in several characters and follows their different points of view. The emotions of the characters are easier to understand thanks to the drawings, it makes them even stronger. I will also alert future readers (and especially the youngest) of the fact that there are some violent scenes that could be hurting. Indeed, there is often fight scene in the stories of superheroes but here it's reinforced by the vivid images. Other themes not suitable for all audiences are discussed here as those of prostitution for example.
To conclude, I would say that this is a story to know because it became very famous and it is an American creation.

Voici le quatorzième tome de la collection Eaglemoss (et bien longtemps que je dis que je vais faire un bilan, il faut vraiment que je m'y mette…) avec ce classique de l'histoire de Batman. On retrouve les tous débuts du justicier, tandis qu'il essaie de se confronter aux gangs du crime qui sèment la panique depuis bien longtemps à Gotham City… Ce que j'aime beaucoup, c'est qu'on nous présente un Bruce Wayne qui a beau avoir eu un entraînement coriace, quand il arrive à Gotham, cela ne lui suffit pas. Ses premières « sorties » ne se couronnent pas de succès, ou alors, un succès de ceux qui laissent un goût amer dans la bouche (à moins que ce soit le goût du sang, à force de se prendre des baignes…).

En tous cas, Bruce Wayne fait son grand retour à Gotham en même temps que James Gordon arrive en ville. C'est l'occasion de faire des parallèles assez intéressant, puisque les deux personnages savent déjà que Gotham est une ville rongée par le crime, mais ils vont s'y frotter de plus près que ce qu'ils n'attendaient… Pendant que Bruce, pas tout de suite sous le costume de Batman d'ailleurs, tente de défendre les habitants, James Gordon observe à quel point la police de Gotham est corrompue. Puis, l'évolution des personnages, qui ont tous deux pour but d'arrêter les criminels – l'un dans les rues, l'autre dans le commissariat – est fascinante, particulièrement quand arrive le moment où ils se rendent compte qu'ils peuvent travailler plus efficacement, s'ils le font ensemble.

À la suite d'Année un, on trouve L'homme qui rit, écrit par Ed Brubaker et dessiné par Doug Mahnk. Comme le nom l'indique, le récit est centré autour du Joker, et semble être dans la continuité de Killing Joke, d'Alan Moore et Brian Azzarello. En tous cas, c'est une réécriture des débuts du Joker, qui débarque à Gotham pour semer la terreur, juste après la disparition du mystérieux Red Hood, tombé dans une cuve de produits chimiques dangereux… Batman va se rendre compte assez rapidement que cela n'a rien d'une coïncidence. Dans la lignée de Killing Joke, le Joker n'a aucun scrupule, aucune empathie pour quiconque tandis qu'il n'hésite pas à tuer par dizaines, grâce à son fameux gaz hilarant… et mortel.

Franck Miller revisite les origines de Batman, enfin pas vraiment il vient rajouter la première année de ses aventures. Cette histoire ce glisse juste après la mort des parents de bruce wayne mais ici pas de quête initiatique, le véritable héros semble être Gotham. Tout les protagonistes qui feront le succès de l'homme chauve souris sont ici mis en place et utilisé à bonne escient . Les dessin de Mazzucceli sublime le scenario.L'idée de publier ces épisodes en noir et blanc conférent une plus valus le cote sombre et noir de la ville n'en est que sublimé
